Which of the 8 researcher types are you?
15 quick questions about how you write, submit and handle reviewers. You get your type, your blind spot, the reviewer comment you are most likely to see, and a short guide your labmates can use to work with you.
Written by Erik Jia, founder of Manusights. Each type’s blind spot is one of the risks our manuscript check looks for. Not a clinical personality test. A mirror for publishing habits, which you can change.

How to read a mark
Each question is about something you do, not who you are. Every type’s mark is built from the same three habits, so you can read a colleague’s type at a glance.
Aim
How high and how new you aim
- Frontier: a triangle, reaching up
- Bedrock: a square, built to last
Tempo
When you let a draft go
- Ship: an outline drawn to 80%
- Polish: a second, inner outline
Proof
How you persuade
- Story: a wave inside
- Evidence: three bars inside
Made to use with your lab
Your result ends with a short “how to work with me” note for your lab chat or handbook, a link that shows how you and a colleague would split a paper, and a lab map everyone can add themselves to.
What it is not
Not a clinical personality test. A mirror for publishing habits, which you can change. Habits change with the paper and the lab, so retake it whenever you like.
