Scope-Fit Risk Calculator

You have already chosen a target journal. Lens reads your abstract against that venue’s scope and returns a 0-100 risk score, the specific scope-fit patterns that might trigger rejection, and 2-3 lower-risk alternative venues.

We don’t train AI on your data. Abstracts use short-lived result caching.

0-100 with named patterns and lower-risk alternatives. Scope-only; we do not score quality.

Calibrated from early work with 35+ CNS-experienced reviewers and senior scientists. Their reviewer language shaped how Manusights flags unsupported claims, weak evidence, journal-fit risk, and likely reviewer objections. Why scope-fit risk matters

In our 2026 manuscript findings report (N=835 v4-classified manuscripts), journal-fit issues accounted for 10.3% of all classified risks. Among those, 79% were flagged at critical severity. For Nature Communications specifically (N=37), 9 of 10 journal-fit issues were critical. When fit fails at a broad-scope flagship venue, it fails almost completely.

Scope-fit is also the cheapest issue to fix before submission. A claim-support issue takes a revision pass. A methodology issue takes a re-run. A scope mismatch usually takes one decision: pick a different venue. Lens surfaces that decision before the editorial response, not after.

Limitations

  • Scope-only. Lens does not assess methodology, novelty, citation completeness, or statistical rigor. Those concerns belong to the paid Manusights Readiness Scan.
  • No outcome data. The 0-100 risk score is a calibrated opinion about scope alignment, not a forecast of editorial decisions. We have not validated against actual rejection rates.
  • Corpus coverage. Strongest for biomedical, chemistry, physics, materials, and computer science venues. Thinner for pure mathematics, archaeology, law, and some social sciences. Out-of-corpus targets return an error rather than a guess.
  • Abstract-only. Lens reads what you paste. Methodology details, figures, and full-text signals are not visible to the scorer. For a manuscript-level read, run a full readiness scan.

Manuscript-level read

Want a full readiness signal, not just a scope-fit risk?

Lens reads only your abstract and only assesses scope-fit. The full readiness scan reads the entire manuscript and returns a desk-reject risk score, the top reviewer-flag patterns, journal-specific failure modes, and a prioritized fix list across claims, evidence, structure, and references. Free preview, $39 only if you want the full report.
