Make soil the protagonist

State the soil process or function being explained, the competing explanation the data distinguish, and the condition under which the conclusion should hold.

Turn a local study into transferable knowledge

Imagine a field study showing that one amendment increases measured soil organic carbon at three farms. A weak submission calls the treatment a general carbon-sequestration strategy. That claim skips several decisions: whether the change represents new carbon rather than redistribution, whether the mechanism is stabilization or measurement timing, whether the response depends on soil class, and whether three farms capture the conditions named in the conclusion.

A Geoderma-shaped revision would classify each soil, explain the relevant mineral and horizon context, separate stock from concentration, account for bulk density and sampling depth, and test the proposed stabilization mechanism. The conclusion could then say where the effect is expected and where it remains unknown. The place is still important, but it becomes evidence for a soil-process inference rather than the entire novelty claim.
