Inputs and expected output
Prepare a title and abstract that name the population or system, intervention or method, main comparison, principal result, and limit. Remove author names, grant identifiers, site names, unpublished accession numbers, and any detail that should not leave the manuscript workflow.

Imagine a diagnostic model trained on retinal images to predict cardiovascular risk. JANE may surface ophthalmology journals because the title and abstract contain retinal-imaging vocabulary. It may also surface cardiovascular or medical-AI journals because the outcome and model are central.
Choose the ophthalmology lane if the paper changes retinal practice or interpretation. Choose the cardiovascular lane if the retinal image is a measurement route and the decision concerns cardiovascular risk. Choose medical AI only if the methodological contribution and validation generalize beyond this task. Similar articles reveal neighborhoods; the claim decides the address.

JANE's method begins with similar PubMed documents and aggregates their similarity by journal or author. That makes it especially useful for biomedical discovery. It does not read the private reasoning of an editor, assess whether the study is complete, or confirm that a journal currently accepts the proposed article type.
A common wrong turn is treating a high-confidence journal as proof that the manuscript clears that journal's bar. A text match can be strong while the validation is too small, the article category is wrong, or the main claim is incremental beside recent papers.
