Do not compress a multi-result paper into a Letter because the label sounds selective. APS counts equations, figures, and tables through its stated rules, so check the live word-count guidance before final formatting.

Worked example
Suppose a manuscript reports transport in a moiré material. A weak opening says the material is promising for quantum technology. A stronger opening identifies the transport regime, the competing physical explanations, the measurement that discriminates between them, and the parameter range where the conclusion holds. The application can follow after the physics is established.
Prepare the evidence record
Physical Review Research requires a Data Availability Statement for published articles. Write it while the analysis is still reproducible. Name where data, code, simulation inputs, or derived products can be accessed; explain legitimate restrictions; and link the statement to the result it supports.
For experimental work, preserve calibration, exclusions, uncertainty propagation, raw-to-processed steps, and instrument context. For theory and computation, preserve assumptions, parameter choices, convergence checks, code versions, and the comparison that makes the prediction testable.

Prepare the submission package
APS says a publication-ready PDF is sufficient for initial review. Put the text, references, figures, tables, and captions into one coherent file. APS supports REVTeX and provides Word templates; editable source becomes important after acceptance.
The cover letter should give the manuscript title, context, main findings, submission history, and useful reviewer information. It should not repeat the abstract. Explain why Physical Review Research owns the result and identify any related manuscripts or prior journal history the editor needs to interpret.

If an interdisciplinary application appears before the physics evidence that supports it, reverse the order and keep the application proportional to what was actually tested.
Common failure patterns in broad-physics submissions
In our pre-submission review work, broad-scope physics papers most often weaken at the boundary between a technically strong result and its claimed reach. This is Manusights editorial observation, not access to private APS decisions.
Failure mode: the abstract advertises an application the evidence does not test. Move the physical result forward and treat the application as a bounded consequence.
Failure mode: the paper has several contributions but no owner. Identify the one result that changes the physics and make the others support it.
Failure mode: the uncertainty is correct but narratively disconnected. Put the dominant uncertainty beside the claim it limits, not only in methods.
The data statement names a repository without explaining the record. Tell readers which files reproduce which figures and what cannot be shared.
