Prepare a finder-safe manuscript summary
Write a short summary containing the research question, population or system, method, main result, and practical or scientific consequence. Remove names, unpublished identifiers, sensitive sites, patent-sensitive details, and confidential findings that should not be pasted into an external service.
If removing sensitive detail makes the summary too generic, search with title keywords and verified similar papers instead. Do not exchange confidentiality for a longer suggestion list.
Merge results before judging them
Run two or three appropriate discovery routes and record:
- journal name and publisher;
- which tool suggested it;
- similar papers or terms that likely drove the match;
- article type that appears compatible;
- obvious reason to keep or reject it.

For each candidate, open the journal's own current pages and confirm:
- aims and scope;
- accepted article types and current author guidance;
- several recent papers near the manuscript's central claim;
- indexing at the index's own record rather than a badge;
- access model, charges, waivers, and license options;
- data, ethics, authorship, AI-use, and reporting requirements that apply;
- submission-system identity and publisher relationship.

Separate topical match from evidence-bar match
A journal can publish your topic and still be the wrong target. Sample recent papers and compare:
- population or system breadth;
- external validation or replication;
- controls and alternative explanations;
- statistical and reporting depth;
- mechanistic versus descriptive contribution;
- practical or theoretical consequence.
The decision is not “Does this journal publish CRISPR papers?” It is “Does this journal publish this type of CRISPR claim with this evidence scale and audience consequence?”
